❛ is that how near death experiences work nowadays ? ❜ if this was anyone else, he would make a joke about how much had changed over the course of his coma ; but sabrina is in obvious pain, and the nurturer in him, the seed of his heart planted by his mother, is sprouting. ❛ you should still sit down. almost dying just means you’ve earned an extra long rest. ❜ gently now, he leans forward and helps coax her back into the bed. various garish knick - knacks left behind by a man long dead ( washed up on shore, head bashed in. ) stare at them as they glide through this careful dance. DAN WOULDN’T CALL THE AIR BETWEEN THEM AWKWARD. he wouldn’t call anything about sabrina awkward, especially not the way he feels around her. never before has a brush with death made him feel so alive, so aware of the rapid beating of his heart in his chest.
once she’s snug beneath the comforter he’s provided for her, dan smiles, elbows resting on the edge of the bed. he’s all too aware of the fight raging on just behind the treeline ; he can see it from the window, hear the cries of various golems in the distance as new and old friends of him give them the business. perhaps if he was less lover and more fighter, he would have joined them, but he is much more useful here ( at her bedside. ) than he would be out there. even as the weight of the day falls on his shoulders, he balances it with his purpose. ❛ it’s good that you’re chomping at the bit to get back out there. good for our group moral, i mean, which is . . . pretty low right now. ❜ he sighs, curling his knuckles into a wrinkle on the sheets. despite the chaos, he never remembers WHO they’re fighting for. ❛ but harley saved me. and i think you can help us save harley. ❜
