His departure was sudden and surprising, not even Alice saw it coming. One minute he was there, and the next he was gone without a trace, without a goodbye to his own family. He left them with no explanation and didn’t even pick up the phone when they called. Jaymes couldn’t, he knew what they were going to say. But he had to leave, business called. The kind that would get him in deep trouble if his other half found out. So Jay left. Not for a few days, or for a week, or for a month. He left for a year.
Alice and Jasper knew of his return, they were expecting it. Jaymes knew his brother would give him a grilling as soon as he stepped foot in Forks, and that’s exactly what he did. So after a brief reunion and scolding, Jaymes was finally alone again and told to come back to the house when he was ready. Jasper could sense how he was feeling, it made it easier for Jaymes. He found it hard to talk about his feelings, about what he was thinking. Which was why he left without a word.
He was sitting in a bar, glass of whiskey in his hands. He stared at it before taking a drink, his body filling with warmth. Jaymes sighed, missing the warmth only Evan could give him. Did Evan still love him after his little disappearing act? There was only one way to find out.
Jaymes finished off the whiskey and set off home. It was time to face the music.
