Concurrence
Never in her entire existence would Sapphire have ever thought she would feel this free. Free to do whatever Ruby or her wanted without sanction or punishment by higher authority. It was more than just a breath of fresh air, more than words could ever even attempt to clarify. There was no doubt in the back of her mind that she absolutely despised just the concept of ever going back, and she didn’t mind. Thanks to the gem who, by a quite unforeseen circumstance saved her life, created this better future for the both of them. After this, why would she ever want to go back?
They traveled alongside each other for some time now, Sapphire consciously deciding not to say much throughout their journey and choosing to settle with her thoughts, but this didn’t mean she outright refused to listen to the other gem at her side. She enjoyed listening to what Ruby had to say, even if it was serious or just downright silly; and occasionally, she would sneak a glance at her whilst she spoke, give a smile or share a laugh, and everything in those moments would be the most tranquil she’d ever felt. But moments like these would often fall short without intention, as a result of one of them developing a sudden fascination with nature’s scenery or with earth’s mysterious creatures. It wasn’t everyday either of them were able to bear witness to these things, so the allure was understandable. And this time, it was Sapphire’s turn.
Several feet away from where she stood, something caught her eye.
” Ruby, look ... “
She couldn’t resist a smile, slightly tilting her head back to stare up at the massive cascade of branches dangling from far up above this bizarre tree. The complex intertwining of these thin branches and leaves made it appear curtain-like, so thick, that it was able to effectively hide anything that may be dwelling within.
Giving into her own desire to investigate, she reached out to move a thick layer of slender branches aside with the back of her hand, and the sight she saw from beyond the branches was nothing short of overwhelmingly beautiful.
Her smile only grew from there on as she took in the sight of scattered beds of flowers and grass of a wide spectrum of colors flourishing around the enormously strange tree, constructing a stunning botanical sanctuary all on its own.
How often was anyone able to witness a view like this in a lifetime? Having the good fortune to see something as breathtaking as this was to be savored, and she would be a fool not to take a moment to revel in what nature had to offer. Besides, it wasn’t as if they didn’t have all the time in the world anyways.
“ Come here, you have to see this, “ She encouraged with the same unwavering smile, holding a hand out towards Ruby as an open invitation.
