The Keeper’s Light
The old lighthouse stood alone on the rocky cliff, its beam sweeping across the restless sea every night. For years, the keeper had lived in solitude, tending the light and watching the storms roll in.
One foggy evening, a small boat appeared on the horizon, drifting closer despite the dangerous currents. The keeper lowered a rope and helped a young sailor climb to safety. Exhausted and soaked, the sailor explained that his vessel had been damaged in a sudden squall. They shared a simple meal by the warm stove while the wind howled outside. By morning the fog had lifted, revealing a calm ocean under clear skies.
The sailor repaired his boat with help from the keeper and set sail once more, waving goodbye from the deck. The lighthouse returned to its quiet routine, but the keeper felt less alone knowing unexpected visitors could bring stories and brief companionship.
