Gravitation || Jareth and Sarah || Rock Star!AU
Sarah wasn’t ashamed to admit that she’d done well for herself over the years. Her freelance skills as a journalist were sought after, and she also had a cushy job working for Rolling Stone. She’d come far since her high school days as a reporter for the school newspaper, and she knew it. Maybe that’s why, when her editor pulled her into his office and asked the woman to go on tour with Jareth Avery and his band, she thought she’d be able to say, ‘No thanks,” and that would be that.
Unfortunately for the journalist, saying no didn’t seem to be an option this time. As one of the magazine’s ‘best and brightest’, they’d decided she would tour with Jareth and his bandmates, blogging daily on the website about her experiences behind the scenes, giving their readers a ‘fly on the wall’ view of the band’s daily life while on tour. Normally, Sarah would’ve seen it as a great opportunity and an amazing experience...but normally she wasn’t former friends with the band’s lead member, either.
So here she was, fresh off the plane and stepping through the rotating doors of the hotel where Jareth was staying before his first stop on the tour. The journalist tried to steel herself. This was a job...just like any other. She just had to stay professional and do what her editor expected of her and she’d be okay...she hoped. As the band’s manager greeted her in the lobby, Sarah’s mind kept trying to slide back to that night...the one that had changed everything between the two of them, but she forced it away. Remembering things that couldn’t be changed was childish; she was over it. No doubt he was too. High school was long over, and they were both adults now. She could do this!
And yet...as the doors opened and she caught her first real glimpse of him in nearly ten years, the woman felt her chest begin to constrict and heard a rushing in her ears. No...no, no! She was not going to be the one who freaked out about this! Calm. Mature. They’d chosen to part ways...she shouldn’t have even been at the concert that night. What Jareth did and who he did it with wasn’t any of her business. Although...technically...it was, now. That’s what the magazine wanted, at any rate. Putting some very old theater classes to good use, Sarah’s face became a mask as Jareth turned towards her.
