ANOTHER ROCK CONCERT FOR THE HUB CITY
A note from the blogger.
Hello world! It’s me, Jennifer— the blogger.
I created this blog, NYC Dreams, to give you an alternative look at the American Dream through the New York City lens. Since the inception of the city, NYC has been highly regarded as the quintessential city to “make it.” It’s the city people come to to make their dreams reality. There seems to be this set (and frankly naïve) path that everyone creates in their minds when they get here: 1. arrive to NYC with a dream, 2. struggle towards the dream, 3. make it. However, this blog will show you that this is not quite the case MOST of the time— the paths diverge and people are forced into various stratifications and situations the city already has in place.
Before you dive into my rendition of the American Dream with a visual and dynamic spin, I have a few tips for you on navigating this rad Tumblr so that you can explore and utilize it to its fullest potential:
1. Scroll down to the compilation of texts I put together under the title, “NYC tells stories,”— it describe the journey and reality of the American Dream within New York City. The mashup of texts include everything from song lyrics to poems.
2, Once you read through the text, you can have fun with it! There are words and/or phrases in the mashup that are hyperlinked. Click on the hyperlinks to find out where these words take you— similar to how NYC tells stories, so will the words.
2. After you explore the stories behind the words, go back to the main page (to go back, you an click on the “home,” link on the top left corner of each of the pages) then scroll down (past the mashup) and click on each respective section to get some insight on the various stratifications of the American Dream. The American Dream can be broken down into three categories: (1) The Haves, (2) The Limbos, (3) The Have (nots).
Now, I hope you have fun and find where you end up as you go through this virtual journey of the American Dream. Cheers!
