[DR] The Littlest Iron
“You know you’re not property right?” It was a question everyone seemed to see as important to ask her. Many time over during her stay in the bay she had heard it, phrased different ways each time, but all with the same meaning. The ‘Runt’ as her fellow Irons had called her, gave a small sigh curled up in her nest on the floor next to VM and Grey. Why did no one understand? She was in fact property. If not for that she wouldn’t exist. If not for the kitchens Fe00668 would have no reason to be. Being owned what what she was born for, her purpose in life. The young Iron was a pet at best, slave at worst and to be honest she was fine with that. The Trap had meant safety, food, clothes. Never before her ‘escape' had she needed to worry about being attacked by Zed or burned by mortar fire. Yes, some weren’t treated as well as she had been, but Fe00668 was a Good Girl. Good Girls were never reprimanded, because they didn’t do anything wrong. Even those few times she had snuck food for herself she had been honest about it, which made her punishments less severe. They were right to be mad though, stealing was bad. Good Girls didn’t steal. Good Girls didn’t run away. Pulling her blanket further around herself she shivered. What would she do once she found the Beautiful Lady? What if Lady Aurora couldn’t smooth over the Bad she had done? What if she got in Big Trouble? What if she was sold away like Mumma had been? What if she was put down? The girl squeezed her eyes shut and tried counting her breaths to quell the panic in her heart. It would be ok, Everything would be ok, Lady Aurora would make it all better. All she needed to do was find the Lady. VM kept telling her to kill the Lady, but until her last breath she would refuse. Lady Aurora had always been kind, Lady Aurora was the main reason Effie had been treated so well. Also, she was the reason many of the other House Triton Irons had given her dirty looks most of the time but she honestly didn’t care even when those looks and whispers turned physical. They weren’t the ones giving her nice things or extra food. None of them made the choices over her life. They should just try harder to be Good Girl and Boys.
