"Falling" was created by Jane Theau. The dark parts in this image are shadows cast by the thread and tartan sculptures suspended in front. It portrays the trajectory of the girls lives over which they had no control. "Drawn Together" was created by a collection of artists from Australia that called themselves the Untethered Fibre Artists. 12 of these artists created this installation which translates narrative and historical elements of a particular girl into an artwork, using a common pattern for the period (1870) of women's drawers' or undergarments. #stitchedupexhibition #timelesstextiles #thelockupspace #textileinstallation #contemporarytextiles

I was fortunate to be invited to participate in an amazing exhibition in Australia called Stitched Up at @thelockupartspace The show pays tribute to 193 girls who were brought to the Newcastle Industrial School in the late 1800's. This stunning installation was created by Anne Kempton @timelesstextiles I will be featuring a number of the works in the exhibition and sharing parts of the story in my feed.
