SNAKE DIDN’T DO well with FALSE NICETIES. He didn’t do well with receiving ut, and he definitely didn’t do well with GIVING it ( as in; he pretty much never did ). It just wasn’t his thing - put up with too many people feigning politeness just to turn around and behave disrespectfully to really tolerate it at this age. Even still, he’d made an attempt to deal with Diane, despite his own qualms - she was the one who gave them this new gig of theirs and, functionally, was also the one running it, and besides that, everyone else ( especially Moe ) had seemed fond of her. He figured he could at least respect her as his boss essentially, and do so for the sake of the others if nothing else. Hell, maybe he’d find that same fondness they all felt along the way.
Obviously, all of that was out the window now - Snake had made pretty damn sure good of that as soon as he’d made that comment towards her, unable to continue to keep his yap shut enough to keep some semblance of peace. He’d simply had enough - of being treated as though he was doing his job incorrectly ( that was how he took it, anyway ), of her acting like she knew him better than he knew himself ( again, perceived on his end - but seriously, how ELSE is one supposed to take unsolicited psychoanalyses ? ), of her acting like a goddamn POLLY, acting like she was so PERFECT and he was LESS THAN HER ( Need it be repeated a third time ? ). He just had ENOUGH. He was willing to work, he was willing to acknowledge her as above him professionally - what he was NOT willing to do was be treated like this ( or how he thought he was being treated, anyway ).
When she started giving her response - that beating around the bush, super particular response - he just barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes at it. ‘I don’t dislike you’, ‘if I didn’t like you, I would say it’ - what a load of BULL. It was the appeasing response - like she was trying to appeal to a crowd. In short, he most certainly noticed her treating it like a PR SITUATION, and he was just short of telling her that he wasn’t some voter she had to convince.
He didn’t have to, though, because soon enough, it was as though some switch had been thrown, the fox suddenly shifting from trying to tip-toe to simply telling him off. He didn’t even flinch at the change; it wasn’t like he hadn’t expected it coming from a mile away since they started working together. He was just glad they could finally freakin’ GET TO IT.
“ There it is, “ he muttered under his breath as soon as ‘you’re part of the issue’ left her mouth. HE’S the problem, HE’S the asshole, etc. etc. - he wasn’t SHOCKED in the slightest, in fact he’d been waiting for her to finally spit it out ( though, she hadn’t actually said...ANYTHING like that, ). He didn’t utter another word for the remainder of her tirade - not until she was leaning to his level and daring to claim that THEY WERE THE SAME, to which his response was to curl up his neck, as if to lean away from her, giving an indignant flick of his tongue as he shot back, “ ‘We’re the SAME ?’ Well, THAT’S a laugh and a half. “ He didn’t believe that for a second. There was nothing similar about them - and even IF there was, who the hell was she to claim that ? She didn’t know a damn thing about him other than what she THOUGHT she saw ( and the vice versa was true as well, if not truer ).
“ Look, I’m so SORRY- “ The word was drenched in sarcasm; definitely no genuine apology for anything “ -that I don’t give you special treatment just ‘cause you’re the governor, and you’re the best thief in the whole friggin’ world. I’m sorry that I’m friggin’- AMATEUR HOUR or somethin’ over here t’ you, the way you get on me for my shit despite askin’ me t’ do my JOB just ‘cause it ain’t up to your standard, PARDON ME. If that’s the sorta shit that makes me ‘part of the issue’ t’ you, then YEAH, guess I freakin’ AM ! “ He shoved his tail tip into the floor for emphasis as he continued, “ Even if you ‘don’t dislike’ me- “ There was a way he said it that made it clear he didn’t believe her, “ -I’m clearly like the friggin’ black sheep t’ you or somethin’. “
