16: [OC] What gave you the inspiration for your muse?
I think it was just simply the fact that there is no sibling to Harry in the series. Just that ‘what if’ thought alone was something that had me really curious and basically was the start of me creating Amelia. I’ve had Amelia for several years now so I don’t remember exactly how I came up with certain aspects of her story (I know most of it included a heck lot of brainstorming) but I just remember wanting to avoid all of the ‘typical’ stuff Harry twins were given in fanfiction (as most, if not all, Harry twins were written in fanfiction at that time rather than for roleplay purposes/accounts). These basically included
Harry’s sister practically knowing everything about everything about Harry as though she had been there his entire life right up to their meeting
Harry’s sister practically throwing herself into Harry’s arms when they first meet
Being able to talk to animals (some even have a pet that they can communicate telepathically to)
Having a scar like Harry (or a different shape) despite the prophecy only speaking about a boy as well as Voldemort only trying to kill Harry before he goes *poof*
Having her hair and eyes change colour when using her magic despite not being a metamorphmagus
Being more powerful than Voldemort
Strange as it sounds, these were my inspirations to avoid XD I wanted to avoid this entirely and I really hope I have succeeded to some degree. I mean, sometimes I do worry about the whole ‘natural wandless magic’ thing but I’ve tried to make Amelia not ‘all powerful’ by making her
very inexperienced with magic
having a wand as well that she uses in class as well to help fit in with the other students
having private lessons to learn how to control her wandless magic
and her learning how to use her wandless magic is not going to be an overnight thing - it’s gonna take a fuck load of practice
Like, even at the end of the seventh book/movie, if she was to suddenly face off someone like Voldemort, Amelia wouldn’t stand a chance. She is a powerful witch but she’s not that powerful, and her not knowing that the wizarding world exists, let alone that she’s a witch, until she was 15 puts her at a major disadvantage. So I guess in a way, wanting to avoid all that was my inspiration and I think it has worked well to a certain degree as I haven’t come across a Harry twin yet that isn’t as accepting initially of the Potters and the wizarding world.
