Alfea is one of the most prestigious schools in the Magic Dimension, and renowned for being the best school for fairies. Due to the school’s reputation, you were incredibly nervous upon attending.
However, there was nothing to be truly worried about; your academic experience at Alfea is–ironincally–magical.
Professor Griselda is insistent on punctuality, and Professor DuFour (the etiquette professor) is even more so. Due to this, all students are woken up by a chiming, birdsong alarm.
At first, you didn’t know what it was, more baffled than anything. But, you realized, it was a much nicer way to wake up than most–even if you didn’t want to climb out of your soft, downy bed most days.
And you learned that the hard way; staying even a few minutes more in bed would cause the bed to shake as if in a tornado and a cold chill to plague your duvet…the alarm was better preferred, to say the least.
Breakfast, you learned, was very much worth the early rise. The sunrise would sweep over the Dark Forest and Lake Roccaluce in the distance, giving the world a shining, golden hue. Combined with the fragrant, cool morning air on your way to the dining hall, it wiped away the last of the sleepiness from your eyes.
Thankfully, though your fellow students are kind, and bordering on extroverted for the most part, many tend to be quiet in the early morning. It helps that Professor Pikass leads orchestra practice in the dining hall leading up to breakfast, greeting the students as they come in with the sound of soft violins and chiming harps.
Breakfast is already on the tables when students stroll in, piled on silver plates with matching serving ware and tea cups. Sweet and savory scones are served with an array of jams, butters, and honeys. Quiches, breakfast sandwiches, and bacon are among the more savory options, with the sweeter alternatives, such as waffles, cinnamon toast, and fresh fruit neatly placed amongst them.
Pitchers of orange juice and fresh water are placed near the center, with a tea set beside them that magically mixes the preferred tea, milk, and sugar combination at request of the student.
Options change throughout the seasons, adjusting to seasonal produce and the tastes of the holiday seasons. Yet, specific dietary selections remain for the comfort and needs of the students.
Core classes take up most of the morning, with electives taking up the evening.
Core classes include: Charms & Enchantments with Headmistress Faragonda, Self-Defense with Professor Griselda, Transfiguration with Professor Wizgiz, Potionology with Professor Palladium, Herbology with Professor Asturia, and History of Magic with Professor Avalon.
Electives include: Performance with Professor Pikass (this includes music, dance, theatre, & self-branding, or essentially, creative classes and self-marketing), Etiquette with Professor DuFour, Healing with Nurse Ofelia, Grimoires & Manuscripts with Professor Barbatea, and Magical Creatures with Professor Mavilla.
Electives are based on mastery and not so much on time spent within the class, so students can go at their own speed. If they excel at a higher rate, they are welcome to select more or all of the given electives as they wish, so long as they do not fall behind on their core studies.
Clubs and societies are the bread and butter of the Alfea experience. Students are encouraged to network while attending to build connections between realms and their guardians. Alliances, after all, can make or break the safety and development of the Magic Dimension.
Most students develop small groups, usually consisting of their dormmates, but many clubs are offered publicly.
Some include:
Cosmetology Club: Glamour spells and beauty potions are the prime focus of these participants. Perfumery studies, magic sewing circles, & enchanted jewelry, patches, and keychains are topics of study and many of the club members seek to incorporate these practices and skills into their daily lives as guardians. This club’s staff representative is Professor Pikass.
Historian’s Society: This society focuses not only on recording the history of their realms and those that live there, but also lead discussion, debates, and conferences on the making of history. Guardians focused on politics and collective community endeavors tend to join this guild. Professor Avalon is the staff representative.
Greenleaf Guild: Nature magic, in both flora and fauna forms, are at the center of this guild. The participants tend to the school gardens and orchards, as well as help with the stables; these communal areas produce much of the school’s food as well as act as learning environments for the Herbology and Magical Creatures classes. Professor Asturia and Professor Mavilla work as joint staff representatives, especially given that this guild is so large.
Your weekends tend to be filled with trips to the local capital, Magix, participating in clubs of your choice, or simply hanging out with your friends in your dorms and communal living spaces.
Events are also rather frequent, as well as optional (but highly encouraged) field trips.
Clubs tend to aid in many events, including philanthropy events, fashion shows, music contests, tree planting parties, study sessions, etc. Often, professors will give opportunities for students to explore other places, cultures, and avenues of learning, such as visits to other academies, magic trials, and seasonal festivals.
By the end of the day, once classes are over, dusk settles over the Dark Forest and darkens the softly lit dining hall. Blooms from the greenhouse waft through the courtyards, splaying sweet-smelling petals across your path. Professor Pikass magically enchants the school instruments to play, finally giving students a break in the evening and granting your ears a marvelous lullaby.
Walking back to your dorm, arms looped with your friends’ as you laugh and reminisce about the course of the day, brings a sense of peace in your heart and hope for the future.
Alfea is a community of its own, being self-sustaining and yet a keystone in the great span of the Magic Dimension. Throughout your time here as a student, you gain confidence, a strong sense of self, friendships built on trust, mutual respect with the faculty and staff, and a firm foundation to the magical life you lead.
For once you graduate, you will be a powerful guardian of your realm, but here and now…you are just you–an Alfea student, free to make mistakes, try and fail (or succeed!) all of the opportunities given to you, and to live each day to the best of your abilities.
