Some themed parties in 5e D&D, based purely on class/subclass:
Team Border Defense:
(AKA ‘we walk the borderlands, we guard the boundaries’)
Twilight Cleric, Watchers Paladin, Horizonwalker Ranger
Team Hope in Darkness:
(AKA the protagonists of a relatively hopeful gothic/religious horror story)
Redemption Paladin, Peace/Life/Twilight/Light Cleric, Divine Soul Sorcerer, Monster Slayer Ranger
Team Fun in the Dark:
(AKA team darkvision/magical darkvision/invisiblity/other fun darkness tricks, AAKA team ‘turn the lights out and slaughter people’, AAAKA team ‘we not stuck in the Underdark with you, you’re stuck in the Underdark with us’)
Twilight Cleric, Gloomstalker Ranger, Shadow Sorcerer, Shadow Monk, any Warlock rocking Devil’s Sight (GOOlock or Hexblade feel thematic)
Team ‘I See Dead People’:
(AKA the ghost-adjacent, ‘we’re all literally haunted’ crew)
Ancestral Barbarian, Phantom Rogue, Grave Cleric, Necromancer Wizard, Hexblade Warlock
Team ‘You Will Fear Me’:
(AKA team fear effect, AAKA Team Batman)
Whisper Bard, Conquest/Vengeance/Oathbreaker Paladin, for bonus points add fallen aasimar
Team Probability:
(AKA team ‘we muck with the dice’)
Divination Wizard, Clockwork Sorcerer, Eloquence Bard, Star Druid, for bonus points add halflings
Team Handyman:
(AKA team ‘skills? we got skills! also tools! and devices!’)
Any Bard, any Rogue, any Artificer, a Forge or Knowledge Cleric for fun, and for bonus points make any or all of them rock gnomes
Team Cult Leader:
(AKA team ‘mind-bending powers that shouldn’t be used for evil but probably will be’)
Enchantment Wizard, Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, Great Old Ones Warlock, literally any Bard but Eloquence and Glamour feel double fitting, Peace Cleric (not any specific mind-control ability, but imagine fighting an evil cult with a peace cleric at its head, empowering and unifying them)
and my favourite to finish:
Team Cosmic Horror:
(AKA team ‘the stars align’, ‘we poked where we probably shouldn’t have poked’)
Great Old One/Fathomless Warlock, Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, Spores/Stars Druid (playing ‘starry form’ for eldritch horror would be great, you know it would), Knowledge/Death Cleric, Oathbreaker Paladin, any Wizard of your choice
