Even more old-school Animorphs recs
From FFN, once more. Again, if you like what you see, check out the authors' other stuff!
(Also, would people be interested in another lightning round of this, featuring unfinished/abandoned works/series? Given the nature of the fandom, I can imagine that cliffhangers would be a setup for an infuriating no thanks, or maybe a yes please, if that's your thing.)
Filler: The Animorphs have a serious problem--the new threat they're facing isn't long enough to fill a whole book! How will they cope? (2,000 words, Humor.) I do love me some fourth-wall punching hilarity, and this certainly delivers.
Go Fish: "As part of a semi-official "Introduce Ax to Human Pastimes" initiative, they take turns bringing games over to his scoop on off mission days." (400 words, Humor.) More subtle foreshadowing going on here, but also hilarious.
Heroes: Sometimes, all you can do is live... or survive. This is the story of the Animorphs afterwar life and the burdens that come with it. (12,000 words, Romance/Angst--Rachel/Tobias.) A plausible AU, with a different resolution to the war and different consequences for what the world learns about the human resistance.
Long Forsaken: Somebody discovers David...knda different than most David stories (6,000 words) This was written in January, 2000. A great way to tie in an unexpected character who's full of fic potential.
Another Chance: Loren tries to make a life, all the while remembering she has a son who wants nothing to do with her. (41,000 words, Loren/OC). While it might seem to focus a lot on Loren's relationships with original characters, once it gets going, there are some entertaining cameos from established characters too. Maybe even more than you'd expect at first glance.
The Tale of a Warrior: A vecol, rejected by his people. Shamed and mocked. He tried to stop the war and almost destroyed a little planet in the way as well… (54,000 words, Adventure). Ties in a lot of minor characters and Andalite scientific concepts, leading to an interesting interplay of how several conditions might bounce off each other.
Not To Be, But To Seem to Be: There was something we didn't know about Ronnie Chambers... (3,000 words, Romance, Cassie/Jake, Cassie/Ronnie, Erek.) Creative premise linking together some minor characters, and revealing insights into postwar Cassie.
One Question: When Marco's dad finds something in his son's room, he has one very important question to ask. (400 words, humor.) The Animorphs' quest for secrecy meets some unexpected complications. Note the rating!
Megamorphs 5: Lose Yourself: The Animorphs thought that they had lost a lot since the war began – their childhood, their innocence, and for some – family. But in an alternate reality, they each lose something fundamental to their identity. Could it get any worse? (70,000 words, Adventure/Drama.) A little hard to follow sometimes, but a creative premise and a well-written epic.
Butterfly: Morphing is never beautiful, even for Cassie. Except when it is. (3,000 words, Angst.) Drabbles skipping ahead in the postwar years. Sweet story, featuring some heart-tugging nomenclature.
Offer of a Lifetime: The Ellimist decides to offer one lucky and lifelong Animorphs fan the chance to get to go inside the books and BECOME an Animorph. Too bad he picked someone who felt that needlessly getting involved in a horrific fictional war is kind of a bad idea... (3,00 words, Parody/Humor.) Yep, more fourth-wall bending hilarity. Just the way I like it.
