Squidnapped (Again)
It was amazing how much action only a few days can bring. The previous had found Agengi and Ilisine teaming up with a group of illithid who they’ve found to be pretty friendly. Still the experience itself was exhausting after all the fighting against dangerous extradimensional beings. As well as all that new information that had been passed on to them.
After resting in the Tower for only such a short visit the two mind flayers could be found departing the area. The shorter of the two kept glancing back until the tower was no longer in sight behind some trees.
“Why are we walking away? You are making this drag out and be difficult.” Ilisine asks her companion. “We should have stayed longer. For the meal and talk with others.”
“We are getting out of range, I do not want anything to interfere with our travel again.” Agengi glances down as they walk, a few tentacles writhing in an amused wiggle. “You just wanted to speak to Zeke to try and gleam if he is in any way related your hive didn’t you?” Then the expression turns more thoughtful and one long tentacle ends up on Ilisine’s shoulder, patting the short sorcerer gently. “We’ll be back soon enough, but you know I am worried about leaving the others for long, and the delivery-”
“Hrm. Your god should have given you something to drop the items to him if he wishes to have them so quickly.” Ilisine huffed mentally in slight annoyance. “And...Yes and no. I also enjoyed how the place felt...homey. And how they worked together.” The small illithid missed her community so any sort of surrogate hive was valued highly in her eyes. “It is..you know what I mean.”
“Ah I do not think he actually cares about the wait. I do though. I want to prove myself indispensable. Perhaps earn the place of a proxy? I do not believe one is picked out currently.” Agengi stayed silent for a good moment after that. “Would you like to stay with them? We could ask next time.”
Ilisine looked up in surprise, shocked that the other is willing to let her go off and pick out whom she wanted to be around with. But the short illithid did not get the chance to reply. Something in the air felt wrong and her thoughts moved away from the Tower. “Do you-”
“Yes.” Agengi’s mental voice pierced sharply, they already had their blade in hand and were glancing around. They felt the change in the surroundings too and were still paranoid after the invisible creatures.
