#JackedKirby - Happy 57th Birthday to the FF!!! 4️⃣💥4️⃣💥4️⃣💥4️⃣ Marvel’s First Family is back!!!! After not being published by Marvel for the last few years, the FF is hitting shelves with a brand new series that will debut TODAY, the 57th anniversary of their publishing debut! 4️⃣4️⃣4️⃣4️⃣ The original cover of the FF #issue1 sports a November 1961 cover date, but actually was printed on Aug 8th, 1961 (see Pic 1). The cover and interiors were drawn by Jack, with dialogue provided by Stan Lee (this is disputable, but Lee is the writer of record!). The original cover shows the team battling one of Mole Man’s subterranean monsters in the middle of Manhattan (Pic 2), with the members showing various stages of their powers. This iconic cover has been copied hundreds of times in comics.... and single handily launched Marvel Comics into the Heroic Age!!!! 4️⃣💥4️⃣💥4️⃣💥4️⃣ As iconic as that cover is, most people don’t know that the original art was lost and so reprinted versions use a SIMILAR but not EXACT replica cover (pic 3). Besides the recoloring, you may notice the missing policeman under the Johnny Storm flame tail and the 4th bystander missing from the sidewalk... as well as some variation on the architecture of the buildings/storefronts on the right side of the pic.
