Reposting• @motolady ❤️ Allow me to introduce you to Debbie Lawler– aka “The Flying Angel”, aka “Queen of Motorcycle Jumpers”, aka the only woman to beat an Evel Knievel record. Found on page 88 of #theMotoLadyBook. In the mid-1970s, women were just starting to get traction in motorcycle racing, but outside the county fair-type performances (think “Wall of Death”), women were not known for stunt riding or daredevil tactics. That is, until Debbie came along. The 5’2” cheerleader and fashion model realized she could make good money (even more than she could as a model) jumping her bike for flabbergasted spectators. In 1974, at the tender age of 21, Lawler flew 101 feet over 16 Chevy trucks, breaking the previous Guinness record. Knievel was less than impressed- his response to being literally one-upped was a gruff “I can spit farther than that”. Can you imagine being the woman who got legendary Evel so kerfuffled he had to put together another world-record event the next month just to get his title back? I can’t. But that my friends, is the immeasurably awesome Debbie Lawler. A complete and utter bad ass. #womenshistorymonth #motolady #badassbabes #womenwhoride #madeinoregon #steelcowgirl #steelcowgirls #motorcycle #motorcycles https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbd71x7gK8R/?utm_medium=tumblr
