Digging through my phone, I came across this forgotten photo of a grubby 7” from February 2021—“Metropolis” by The Motors. They put it out in 1979 and it’s one quirky track, with the speed of New Wave, the bizarre chord changes of Prog Rock and some high-falutin’ conceptualization worthy of Queen. On the sleeve, it says it’s produced by Jimmy Iovine, who went on to rule the world as the co-founder of Beats, and it’s quite the ambitious if cluttered production. This particular copy really got the snot kicked out of it, as you can see from the water-stained sleeve and crud on the vinyl, but it cleaned up nicely and all lives in a sealed record bag so the cover won’t stank up the place.
