Galt MacDermot R.I.P. Some Kilmarnock releases: The Nucleus (KIL-72001), Woman Is Sweeter (KIL-70003(re)), Hair Cuts (KIL-69001), Shapes of Rhythm (K-1001 (re)), including some 7-inches “Wa-Wa” (on a deep purplish vinyl when held to a light), Billy Butler “Up” from his Via Galactica LP, Salome Bey - “Boo Boo” (one of “the" Bey sisters), and the “Coffin Ed and Grave Digger” 7-inch from Cotton Comes to Harlem. Sometime in the 90’s I received several Galt MacDermot LPs and 45s from a young regular to Finyl Vinyl, the shop I worked at. @nowgain wasn’t just buying music, he devoured it and lived to know more. He helped set up a relationship with Galt and the label and we sold every record we received. I was already familiar with Galt’s music because of Hair and some of the related LPs, like the All Natural Hair Band’s deep, “Ripped Open By Metal Explosions.” Percussion was always at the heart of everything Galt had done and his choice of drummers, Idris Muhammad and Bernard Pretty Purdie, were proof of the importance. I probably expressed my dislike of showtunes to Egon but luckily he went on to prove me wrong to think of Galt in just those terms. Galt’s music creates a soundtrack regardless of the intended use or purpose. The sounds are visual and immerse you into other worlds. Thank you @nowagain for expanding my view, my ears and my knowledge and thank you Galt for all the great music. @galtmacdermot @HairTheAmericanTribalLoveRockMusical @HairTheMusical @Kilmarnock @KilmarnockRecords #FergusMacRoy #GaltMacDermot #TheNuleus #ShapesOfRhythm @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector https://www.instagram.com/p/BrhL6DJAGK9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=b2i4qxpm81wg
