For Bridge, who sparkled into existence this time of year.
"You're an awful influence, Evans," says James, glancing up from his Potions textbook.
At her words, James glances down at her left hand which has been playing with his hair at intervals, now resting on the table innocently. His gaze sweeps over to her other hand, which is resting comfortably on his thigh. Without a word, he raises an eyebrow.
"I've never known you to complain about where I put my hands before," she says, still grinning widely.
James catches her left hand on its journey back up to his hair. Admittedly, it is going against his instincts not to let her touch him. In fact, a significant part of James wants to throw the Potions book down and commit certain acts that would warrant a permanent ban from the library. "I'm trying to study." James complains. "As much as I like snogging you, I'd rather not fail Potions."
"Potions is really something that ought to be practically taught," Lily argues. "It'd do you better to spend an evening brewing than reading the textbook."
"Merlin, Evans, I'm already spending my Friday night in the library, and now you're suggesting I spend it in the dungeons?"
Lily shakes her head. The hand that is in James's slides out of his grasp and finds a place running her fingers across his scalp. James closes his eyes. "I'm suggesting you spend your Friday night in an empty classroom, with your girlfriend who happens to be ace at Potions. Whom you can properly thank for helping you by spending more time with her in the aforementioned empty classroom."
James was already half-convinced by her mischievous hands, and now, as his eyes open to notice the twinkle in Lily's eyes, he is positively eager for to comply. He haphazardly throws his textbook and papers in his rucksack and they make haste to leave the library. Madam Pince gives them suspicious looks at their quick exit, and almost stops them to check if James has stolen any library books (that was only one time, thinks James, but she won't let him forget it).
They spend their evening in the dungeons. James will get an A at most on his next potion, but he thinks he learns a thing or two in that empty classroom all the same.
