“I’m 11 years old and recently inducted into womanhood—or so it feels on this sweltering summer afternoon at my grandma’s house in Karachi.”

Hugest thanks to #TheOffingMag for giving this essay a home, and to those of us who just keep going in spite of everything. I see you. Thanks for seeing me. Thanks for staying, so that none of us have to do this alone. http://theoffingmag.com/essay/choking-on-vanilla/ (at Vermont Studio Center)
It means a lot every single time I get to sign off on a story for a magazine, but it’s something else entirely when it’s for one that, in a very short period of time, has stepped up as one of the most important literary venues around, period.
Really respect what theoffingmag is all about and everything they do, and they're not even a place that’s greater than the sum of their parts in regards to the fact that all of their staff members are as socially conscious and relevant as the mag itself. This is my second piece with them, and this one (which I posted a short passage from last march) really means a lot to me.
Very happy.

“They’re happier when you’re not around...”
Really proud to have a short piece, “Breakfast”, up with The Offing Magazine, a channel of the LA Review of Books. The Offing is, in my opinion, the best new mag of 2015: coming from a major voice in American fiction, unafraid to publish new and/or marginalized voices, and just packed--across the board--with talented, professional people. I mean, this story was selected by Danez Smith; that’s pretty great.
I rarely get so excited over a mag, but something tells me this one is going to shake things up. So glad that--in a mag of such apparent stature and editorial integrity--I have a piece with them in which cheeseburgers are prominently featured (slaps forehead).
How is it possible that one blog contain so much awesomeness?
if I could type in red I would be blushing ever so slightly…ok maybe a lot. All kinds of Thank You for that.
I’m looking at your tumblr and what your purpose is - and I am beyond flattered.
This should be interesting…
The Offing, a channel of the Los Angeles Review of Books, is an online literary magazine that publishes risk-taking work by new, emerging, and established writers and artists — with an explicit commitment to publishing diverse voices. Launch: March 16, 2015.
