would you care to address the recent uprising of thramsay shippers, and all the severe hate they're receiving for shipping a pairing that is a) gay and b) unpopular? just felt like we need an expert's opinion.
(You have no idea how badly I’ve been wanting to address this.)
Anyways, as I’ve mentioned before, I see nothing wrong in shipping homosexual pairings, even if their sexuality is never brought to question. As long as the shipper in question is not fetishizing it and they see the characters as more than just a sexual identity, it’s all good in the hood.
(If you don’t like spoilers and if you haven’t read the books, you probably shouldn’t read this. I’m not trying to be elitist, but it’s impossible for me to answer without addressing some spoilers)
Moving on, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO SHIP THRAMSAY. It’s okay to find villains interesting. Some of the Thramsay fics I’ve seen (I’ll admit that I’ve read some) can be really great. Honestly, I’m a little uncomfortable with it just because of their relationship in the books, but as long as you’re not condoning abuse, it should be okay.
It’s okay to ship whatever you want. For example, the Hannibal fandom is shipping serial killers? Personally, I wouldn’t do it, but that’s my choice just as it’s their choice. The Loki fandom thinks he’s fascinating. I do too, but he’s a little shit.
Bottom line is that shipping is your own personal preference. If you can separate reality from fiction and understand the magnitude of Ramsay’s actions without trying to defend them vehemently (like his treatment of Theon and Jeyne), we’re cool. We’re all cool. Good in the hood.
tl;dr: You can ship, but don’t fetishize or woobify.
