Outside of the times when a character's name just occurs to me, whole-cloth, I have a series of questions I use to narrow it down. Where does the character come from? Example, if my character is a poor Chinese girl in 1910 Beijing, I'm not going to name her Momoko. So, location, time, culture, religion, sex/gender, description all come before the name. Personality, too. Once i have those, I do enjoy picking a name with a sly sort of meaning.

Uh. This is Orchid. As far as 'fairy-tales' go, my favorite is Yvon and Finette. I'm also a huge myth/folklore/story buff. If I had my own TV show with an unlimited budget, I'd probably turn this book series I'm writing into a TV show instead, with sorcerers and shapeshifters, and girls fighting evil and in character discussions about consent, autonomy, and morality.

woo! three facts about myself:
1. I’m scared of heights, but more in the sense that I’m scared of falling. Airplanes? No problem. Tall buildings? No problem. But if I climb myself too far up a tree, I get really, really panicky and shaky.
2. My first kiss was in the middle of the movie theater for “The Black Dahlia”. I was so nervous I had to get up in the middle of the movie and go stand in the bathroom and prep-talk myself up to it. My second kiss was in the middle of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. I’m not sure what this trend says about me.
3. I once convinced a bunch of guys in a bar while I was traveling that I was actually a celebrity. They made me sign napkins and take a picture with them. (All this because I was sick of being asked “Oh, you’re from California? So do you know any celebrities?” so I sarcastically said, “Well actually, I kind of am one.” and then went with it. One of their more-sober friends copped on, thought it was hysterical, and started listing fake movies I was in.)

the corsair (childhood), the Not-Doctor (sleep), River (au).
The Corsair (childhood) - haaaa I need to actually think this through. But vaguely I have it in my head he was fairly solitary, with parents who were pretty distant and wrapped up in politics. He had a massive mean streak as a kid.
The AU Doc - While he has realized he doesn’t need as much sleep as normal humans, he’ll occasionally try to follow the usual human pattern of nightly sleep in denial anyway, with generally disastrous results (i.e. lots of tossing and turning and grumbling/grumping that puts him in a sour mood). For a while pre- the revelation that he is very much not-human, he was trying to take sleeping pills, with about zero results. When he does actually manage to fall asleep, it’s usually laying on his back, but he’ll inevitably wind up curled up, generally around his pillow. He’s a light sleeper and a mutterer.
River (AU) - This is so cheesy ahaaa but River in the middle of Supernatural. Hunting demons and flirting up a storm with Dean. and pretty much everyone else, obviously and I don’t even WATCH much Supernatural.
