“Uh. Hey.”
He had given it time and thought, and with his illness spreading faster than he could hide it, his pride was wearing thin. Especially after the fourth class trial, where he nearly lead everyone to their doom for his belief in Gonta, Kaito had realized he had made mistakes.
Starting with his argument with Kurochi. After contemplating the other’s words and, for once, putting himself in Kurochi’s shoes...
Well, it was no wonder why he was resistant and angry towards his previous advances. If Kaito was angry for Maki’s verbal mistreatment, then he couldn’t imagine how upsetting it must have been for Kurochi to witness someone strangle his brother... twice.
Needless to say, even if Maki wasn’t a bad person at heart--and Kaito would be damned if he didn’t believe him her still--she had definitely left horrible impressions on the twins. It was only Kurochi’s words that even made Kaito realize that was a huge problem.
“Can we talk, Kurochi?”
Kaito’s voice, while as loud as ever, was warmer and softer all the while. When he confronted Kurochi, he had been annoyed. Now, he genuinely wanted to get on even footing.
“Look--I don’t want to talk about Maki or Kokichi or... whatever. Well, not in the way you’re thinking. I get it if you’d rather I screw off, but... It’d mean a lot if you’d hear me out for a sec.”
