Rin pressed his face into the pillow. His head was a mess, thoughts twisting and swirling like waves on a stormy night. This was so dumb. Why couldn't he sleep? Actually, he knew why—the answer was right there in front of him—but he could not admit it to himself.
He couldn't admit that the reason why he was still tossing in bed was because Milan was busy by the desk instead of being there next to him.
"Do you want me to come to bed?" she asked.
"You said you need to finish your drawing."
"There will be a hole in my back soon from your staring. What's wrong?"
Rin turned to his side and pulled the blanket over his head. "Nothing."
He heard her blow out the candle and, through the darkness, make her way over to the bed. Her footsteps creaked on the old wooden floor until they stopped altogether. But Rin's heartbeat only picked up its pace when a pair of warm arms sneaked around him from behind.
"Rin~ You're pouting again."
He immediately faced her at the taunt. "I'm not! I was perfectly fine, just about to fall asleep I'll have you know!" he protested but the only response he got was a laugh. Even if it was dark, he knew she was rolling her eyes. However, the comfort of her presence overtook his flustered mind, and a moment later he had melted into her arms, face snuggled in the crook of her neck. His thoughts were still as a mirror once again.
