Rigor Mortis
@theoutlavv
As a coroner, Hanzo had had his fair share of time spent in court and meeting lawyers. Besides writing autopsy reports and handing them over, he was occasionally asked to testify. It was through that that he noticed just how mellow some of the prosecutors were, how they didn’t notice just how many clues a body could reveal. Details he’d write down in his autopsy report that got ignored until the very end of a case. It made him frustrated and, eventually, he decide to take matters in his own hands.
The bar exam had been surprisingly easy and he passed with no struggles at all. He hadn’t used it yet, though, he was waiting for the perfect candidate, for a victim to end up on his autopsy table that intrigued him. And this one did.
A Jane Doe, mid-30s, buried in the middle of the woods, killed almost two days prior to the discovery, about 38-40 hours ago according to the algor mortis. Puncture marks in her arms suggested poisoning or something among those lines, but there was nothing detected. To make things more complicated, the puncture marks had been made post mortem, or so the livor mortis suggested. The presence of said livor mortis also made it clear that the person hadn’t been buried immediately, but had been killed somewhere where it hadn’t been in contact with the ground. It intrigued the Asian man to the point where he wanted to solve this puzzle on his own and, so, he applied to this case once he had finished up the autopsy report.
Lab coat replaced by a wool one and nitril gloves with leather ones, Hanzo got out of his car close by the police line, tightening the scarf around his neck as he was allowed to pass upon showing his prosecutor’s badge. It was cold, which was a good thing or else he couldn’t have determined the approximate time of death, but it didn’t mean that he enjoyed it. Cursing himself for not having brought some coffee along or for him to not have smoked before getting behind the police lines, he just decided to make his way over to the first person he saw, his hat making him stand out from the rest of the crowd.
Glasses pushed back up on his nose, Hanzo cleared his throat to draw the man’s attention before continuing. “I’m looking for the detective who’s in charge of this homicide.”
