So here I am again, it’s been a minute since I’ve stepped onto this mat. I jumped into one of those rabbit holes that often show up in your path this past year, unsure of the outcome, but as always the promise of growth. Blinded by the superficial gain of this path, I got kicked around a bit and managed to go deaf to the ‘song of my soul’. When I was ready to gain back what I had lost, I felt no other place to go but back into that protective shell. It’s that barrier that keeps me safe and hidden, but crammed into the form I no longer fit into. As I stand here, relaxing in the movement of my body. I listen to my muscles. I experience the trapped energy release from my joints and let go as I exhale with every breath. It’s no wonder everything has seemed so stifling. The tension in my spine is a reminder of everything this past year held. The tendinitis in my hands tells me to respect my limits more and reward my hard work better. I’m practicing listening to myself again. Why did I ever stop? So here I am, ready to embark in the new challenge 2019 has already given me. One week in and I’m already jumping, but I stand strong and ready because although I am still recovering, I remember where it is I need to listen more; what I can do without, and what I will always need. I will face this year with the same stubbornness I hold on my mat. I will stumble, I will fall, it might even ache a bit, but I will always get back up and try again. I will never lose perspective of the potential self that is constantly looking over me, and reminding me there is a reason, and there is a purpose for what it is I am here for. I will continue to sing my song, no matter who chooses to listen.
