A Little Holiday Getaway at the Langham Pasadena: Part II
The Picture Bridge, Featuring the Art of Frank Moore
In 1932 the Huntington Hotel (known today as the Langham Pasadena) commissioned Frank M. Moore to create a series of oil paintings of California scenes. The painted panels were displayed in “The Picture Bridge,” located near the swimming pool, and were enjoyed by visitors for many years. The elements are not kind to oil paintings, and in 2013 the panels were removed and placed inside a climate-controlled facility to prevent further damage.
This year during the down time created by coronavirus pandemic, the bridge was refurbished and given a structural upgrade. Faithful facsimiles of the original paintings were created and installed in the bridge just last month (November 2020), so Neal and I looked forward to seeing the results. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed walking across the Picture Bridge and viewing the panels. Here’s a selection of photos I took while waiting for our breakfast order.
