I looked to you today Two words, you said to me I thought over them
A few times or two You know, I never would Belong to anyone
But I belong with you, And you said "trust me"

Shining
You, standing, you are in full metal armour Like Channing Tatum of my pavement You shift in the most teutonic of ways So bright in the wane sunlight.
You, turning, you are careworn Sunk in the forever rage of the sea And doughty in your idée fixe Though you are gentle with me.
You, smiling, you are perfect So splendid and richly formed Perseus holding the head of my demons They have never met one like you.
And I am waiting here Staring out my window Cold, Tired, Waiting for the night to come rescue me.
The Perfect Date
I sat down on the train station bench. The train station wasn't very big In fact, it was quite small - just Three seats right here and three seats there I was waiting for someone important I had my backpack, and my new red kicks.
We walked together to the bus, my Blue eyes looking into her white smile Her green bomber jacket, my blue varsity jacket Settled over her soft shoulders And my cross-necklace swinging on my chest. The weather was somewhat cloudy and grey.
We bussed to the museum. It was maybe then When I realized, I offered her gum And she took it. She took my hand in hers I thought that was very important. Later, I walked her home to the bus stop. Her hair was marzipan and mint
And my mama told me First dates Are perfect
Lemons
I wrote this in a challenge to "Write a three-line poem about lemons without using the following words: lemon, yellow, round, fruit, citrus, tart, juicy, peel, and sour."
You are the drunk father at a ballet recital, Who falls off the stage after shaking everyone's hands. You are the body that brightens my life.
Neil deGrasse Tyson
I wrote this based off a challenge in which you took the first eight words from the eighth page of the nearest book. I extended it to use the first eight words from every eighth page for four lines, and the book I used was "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry" by Neil deGrasse Tyson.
of quarks and antiquarks, electrons and antielectrons (better I know them instead as the sparks on your face, my daughter leaping through an urban prairie) What happened before all this? What happened before blue ice cream and dogs, what happened to them?
You grew up, my dear, as the virtual particles at ground state, as optical tweezers, as string theory hopefuls in which they showed a written reply from a buck-toothed eleven-year-old who squinted over integrals like ants who used to pause at the library's physics shelf and I would find you there three hours after. Let there be light after the big bang You grew up, my dear, and I have lost you as always.
Red Beans
Off-brand chips and bean soup, again Someone told me the skies here are blue Today my tea is grey. The commute Roars quiet, like an oven Like a gas top and saucepan.
I taste red beans on my tongue That I brought from my mother's house Back home I have a chicken. My wife My three daughters, my son The train is red, red and white
I will call them again, tonight. My knuckles are dry. My shoes are clean Lint-rolled suit, crisp tie Sharp and clean and white shirt White and my red, red beans.
Love Shack
She’s the cigarette that never leaves your lips The mint, you steal She loves the cabaret and to dance And you love to watch her.
the way she smiles back at you
Give me a quarter and play me Love Shack, baby What’s the deal?
you’ve already fallen for her.
Beautiful now
The world's a very beautiful place.
This is because you are in it.
