The Principles of Uncertainty By Maira Kalman A lovely visual journal/ memoir of a year in the life of Maira Kalman. Her artwork is stunning and vibrant, her words are written like poems. As I read this I was reminded reminded of the inner monologues of an array people throughout the German film Wings of Desire. What appears as randomness quite often balances on a tiny thread of connection with everyone and everything. I included Ms Kalman's day with Kitty Carlisle Hart to show that odd connectivity. My only " family heirloom" is a copy of Kitty's husband Moss Hart's autobiography. This copy of Act One belonged to my late grandfather whom I've never met. It's that tiny thread which connected him and I ( He too was a voracious reader) and in some weird little way it connected to The Principles of Uncertainty.
