Top End Wedding Film Screening
In celebration of NAIDOC Week in Australia, the Australian High Commission, Singapore organized a special film screening at The Projector, featuring the critically acclaimed romantic comedy, Top End Wedding, which is making a splash around the world. The film’s co-writer, executive producer, and star, Miranda Tapsell, took time off from her busy schedule to attend the event and to share her pride and joy with everyone.
I loved Top End Wedding as it is a romantic comedy filled with charm and warmth, populated by quirky, unique individuals that are hilarious to watch. At its heart, the film is a sincere tale of identity and belonging, a personal love letter by Miranda to her home in the Northern Territory saying “Thank you for being such an important part of my childhood. I will not forget my home and where I come from”.
During the Q&A session, Miranda shared her experiences in making this film including the heartwarming song specially written for her character and the chemistry with her co-star, Gwilym Lee. Miranda also shared her journey through the film industry, from her debut in The Sapphires to her surprise that Top End Wedding survived and prospered in the box office despite the presence of The Avengers End Game. More importantly, Miranda shared her passion in telling stories about indigenous people that do not conform to the typical stereotypes in mainstream media. As one member of the audience mentioned, we are looking forward to more works from Miranda and her unique takes on stories that are dear to her heart.
