No one really likes drama, but I don’t feel right not saying anything, so I’m making this post on @therealgonzoldyck-deactivated20. @throwawayblog12345
Everyone’s talking about what Jamie took from them, but what about what she gave?
Yeah, plagiarism is shitty. Those writers did the work and she benefited from it without credit. But while condemning her actions, you’re all forgetting the actual good that Jamie did in the fandom. The times she passionately encouraged and praised fanart and artists. The times she reblogged your selfies with nice comments in the tags. The times she listened. Jamie inspired so many people to start or continue drawing and writing, myself included! I hadn’t drawn anything in YEARS, and it was Jamie and Danny that finally made me want to again. It was the two of them who requested art from me and motivated me to actually be creative. Jamie was particularly enthusiastic in her support. The progress I’ve made in my art and even my identity this past year is in large part thanks to Jamie. Whatever else she did, that part doesn’t change.
Of course Jamie has flaws, but her flaws are also her best qualities. Being quick to choose sides makes her loyal and proudly defensive of her friends. Being aggressive gives her a voice when so many women are silenced. Maybe some of it is selfish, but Jamie is kind and generous in her interactions with others. She puts so much effort into making others feel good about themselves, even people she doesn’t know. Even if that’s self-serving, it still leaves everyone feeling a little better.
So this time, she craved attention and used others’ works to get it. That part’s not okay. Neither is reducing the entirety of her character to that one thing. What about the experiences in her life that made her feel that the only way she could get the positive attention she needed was through using words from someone else? What about the ways that people have treated her that made her feel like she wasn’t likable enough just as she is? What about the way that the fandom is telling her again, right now, by rejecting every other aspect of her personality and character, that all she’s made of are her mistakes? We all have flaws…Jamie’s are just more public than most. You don’t have to forgive her, and you don’t have to like her. Just remember that she’s a person, too. She doesn’t deserve all this. The writers of the original fics deserve credit for their work, but all these rude and emotional comments about Jamie’s character are hurtful and do nothing to improve the situation.
