In one month I will no longer be a CP. I will hopefully still be holding a position at Disney for as long as possible just not in my current position. **fingers crossed** hoping to get hired on as a front desk and transfer my skills to aulani when cal and I move to Hawaii. I am however excited to be returning to target and Starbucks at the end of July here in Orlando and I couldn't be happier to have a job where I can constantly be doing something and not sitting/standing around twiddling my thumbs. I need that fast paced action and the college program recruitment did a poor job placing me in that kind of position. In fact they put me in the slowest position they could find. If anyone asks me if the college program was worth it... I would say yes but only to get my foot in the door and make friends along the way. If I had it my way I would have just moved down here and got a regular, better paying job at Disney and not be used and abused as a CP. The fact that we are interns means we get less pay for the same job, that we sometimes do better than the regular workers, and less benefits. No I don't mean health insurance and the like, I mean vacation time, 6th day overtime. They use our naivety to their advantage and get away with it because we are interns and not seasonal/part/full time employees. We have no say. For Those of you coming in now or thinking about doing the program. Buckle up its a bumpy ride. You are going to love it sometimes and hate it others. You may love your roommates and the next day you're moving out and off property to save your sanity. But you'll meet great people who help you make it through each day. The guests may not always be cordial but do your best not to take it to heart and find a way to turn their day around. You have a lot of power to make magic happen if you want to, just do it.. Make the best of it. Make friends. Make memories. Make your dreams come true. Make the magic happen in any way you can.
