I saw a youtube video pop up in my recs about common misconceptions about the Disney College Program.
The majority of the comments that I went through were about how the DCP is a scam, they know someone/multiple people who hated it, had no money, etc.
i 100% believe that the DCP is what you make of it, and as long as you save up some money in advance (if possible) and realize that it's a job and not just an excuse to fuck off to Orlando to play in the parks all day, you'll be fine!
As someone who managed to get through the whole thing without terming or being termed, it was a fantastic experience and I've recommended it to a handful of people I know (ex: a coworker at Jellystone who's in high school and is already interested in applying for the DCP) who are responsible and can handle the demands.
And trust me, it's hard work and there are demands. You're on your feet all day. When you're "onstage" (in front of guests) you have to take that extremely seriously.
And there are terrible days, like there are at any job. I was occasionally screamed at by both guests and higher-ups (which made me cry lmfao). Coords could be very catty. The hours sucked. Don't get me started on the pay.
But playing with lightsabers and kicking a soccer ball around with my roommates at Flamingo Crossings Village? Receiving little gifts from some very kind guests? Getting to wave at the characters while backstage? Playing in the parks on my days off? Getting to hop on the ride (because I worked attractions) at 1am on New Year's Eve with the other CPs who had to work during the holiday, and jamming out? Getting to know Orlando a little bit better? Meeting one of my best friends? I wouldn't trade it for anything.
And I mean yeah, if certain parts of the program (like living with roommates, dealing with guests, not making much money, being in an overstimulating theme park) don't appeal to you, just don't apply! Save your time and mental health. It's really not for everyone.
But if any of the stuff I said seems worth it, I promise, it 100% is. Just remember that, at the end of the day, it's a job and it's very hard work!
i think you mentioned you did a program at disney world (if i have the wrong person just disregard lol) but if you did what was your favourite park? and if you're a fan of happily ever after what's your favourite part?
you have the right person! I did, in the summer of 2022. this is gonna sound so cupcake of me but that summer truly made me fall in love with all four parks for different reasons.
I worked at epcot so it has an indelible top spot for me forever for that. (I worked at the Ratatouille ride and I will hear no word against that whatsoever lol I still adore it despite riding it a million times and hearing the post-ride music on loop for hours and hours.) that summer the guardians of the galaxy ride opened and it was so thrilling when we all got to ride it for free a few times after hours on national roller coaster day. epcot is also home of festivals (I was there for part of flower & garden and part of food & wine) and it's one of the best park experiences imo.
hollywood studios is very dear to me because of all the star wars stuff and it also has my favourite quick meal: totchos at woody's lunchbox. I once got to go on a backstage tour of rock & roller coaster before the park opened, learned about the mechanisms of it and rode it with the lights on, it was incredible.
animal kingdom generally ranks last for me but at the same time it also has my favourite ride of them all, flight of passage. and the food at satu'li canteen is wonderful. I'd 9 times out of 10 start my days there on my days off because it's the park that opens earliest.
but like, magic kingdom kinda reigns supreme, right? the rides are banger after banger, the shows are all elite, there's so mamy great snacks, and there's magic when you're walking around. it's an unmatched feeling. and I LOVE happily ever after. my friend met jordan fisher and we were all so jealous lol. but yes I think it's my favourite magic kingdom fireworks show I've experienced. my favourite part is probably the "love" portion, especially when you'll be in my heart and also I see the light are playing.
however, at the time of my program, the show was enchantment. my favourite spot to watch it, if you don't mind missing the projections on the castle, is the Dumbo ride. seems crazy but you get the music and the fireworks, with no one in your way. plus at that time there's hardly anyone there so you could keep riding over and over. I once stayed 8 rides in a row without exiting the vehicle - the cast member asked if I wanted another go, I said yes, and I'd lift it all the way up and watch the fireworks. it's one of my favourite memories of that summer. this works for any mk firework show tbh.
I'm sorry that was like a reaaaally long-winded answer but I love any excuse to talk about my program. if you have any questions about the process, the work, or living at flamingo, feel free to reach out to me!
Would anyone be interested in me writing an entire exposé on Walt Disney World as a former cast member and unleash the horrors I witnessed now that my NDA is up?
Sibling Season is a niché Donor Conceived (tm) experience that envokes both excitement and woah mumma a whole lotta fear
All the other white girls in the Disney College Program are envious of my ankle rash cuz they know i'm getting the longest and sweatiest shifts in the Pluto costume

It's a Disney Theme Park Cast Member AU!
Let's make Wangxian discuss tradition v. Innovation in a Universal versus Disney sort of way. They start together as Jungle Cruise Skippers on their Disney College Program. We will see where the wind blows them from there.
Summary:
"I'm Wei Ying, this is my brother Jiang Cheng, and this beautiful statue is Lan Zhan. Some people take him for granite, but I think he rocks." The newcomers politely said nothing about his joke, Jiang Cheng groaned into his fries, and Lan Zhan fixed a pointed glare at him. The Walt Disney World/Theme Park Imagineer AU (In which Wei Ying makes terrible attraction puns, Lan Zhan pretends not to find them funny, and they both discover that the happiest place on Earth might just be wherever they're together.)
About:
They say write what you know! My favorite fics tend to be the deeply specific job ones like thievinghippo's baseball AU, Waiting For Spring , or varnes', SNL AU, Live From New York both of which I adore and re-read often. This is my attempt to put all those years working for the mouse to use! I've done my best to let this reflect the way the parks were in 2013, which is very different from now! And I've changed a few things that only CM's will notice probably just because I can and they make things work better. This act is done at about 60k and I've got about 20k of the next act. I plan for three acts total. Right now I'll be updating once a week, either late Sunday's or on Mondays. Fyi, there are references to Universal and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, one because it's just a part of life there and people have to work and get paid, but also because it's 2013 and whatsherface wasn't as unhinged back then. The next two act's will bring us through the years up to the present and yes it will be addressed.
