Alright. So, today our goal was to check out the shops in old town, Chania, and to see an old village, Theriso. The pics above should make it clear why they call this street in old town, "Leather Street." Beautiful, beautifully-crafted, beautiful leather bags, coats, and sandals. The jewellery was pretty too. Agora (means "market" in Greek) is an important landmark. This is where generationas of fishmongers, and butchers, grocers and craft folk sell their wares. Agora is shaped in a cross and it's known as the heart of the city. We learned that during WWII the Nazis occupied the East-West corridor of the market. We also heard that when they lost the war they packed their ish and left and it was business as usual the next day. On our way up to Theriso, the traditional village, the driver pointed out the cliffs to show where Greek soliders stood and fought the Nazis. You already know the Greeks lost the battle -- Germany occcupied Greece from 1941-1944 -- but that aside, aren't these cliffs magnificent? And, is it just me or don't these pics remind you of somewhere in sweet Jamaica? It does me. Remember when I said the population of Chania was 7K? I meant 70K. (My measely mistake means nothing. Literally.) Remember how I said that population probably includes goats? I meant that for real. Check out who we ran into in the road. Theriso really is a small small village. We saw a couple family-owned restaurants, a church and a museum (opened M - Su, 11.30a-1.30p). Surprise surprise, we saw more goats. You see Sonia getting fresh with them above. I saw a cock that looked none too pleased to see me, too. Yes, folks, it's all about new experiences. Last picture: Teats or Nuts? You tell me.
