Review #TheSeventhSun by @laniforbes The story takes place in the Chicome Empire, a territory that was devastated by 6 individual apocalypses : water, storm, fire, famine, disease and animals. This is why the Chicome people respect the traditions of sacrifice among others and believe in the Gods. The children of ometeotl the God, saved the Chicome people. The story is inspired by the Aztec and Mayan civilizations. As far as history is concerned, the emperor of the sun is dead and his son, Akhin is going to become the new emperor. For this, he needs a wife, whom he will choose among 6 princesses of the people. One will be his wife and the others will be sacrificed. The princesses are Mayana (water), Yemeni (disease), Zorrah (animals), Yoli (fire), Teniza (famine) and Itza (storm). They all have their own little characters. I really liked Mayana a lot, she doesn’t believe that the loving Gods who saved them might want sacrifices. On the other hand her belief in the Gods is very present. She’s going to have to hide what she really thinks about the prince. I also enjoyed the tender moments between Akhin and Mayana. They’re both so cute and they complement each other perfectly. I enjoyed watching the friendship between Yemeni and Mayana develop. Akhin is a young prince who has a sense of duty even if he regrets that his mother had to sacrifice herself after the death of his father. He is intelligent, doesn’t have much confidence in himself but he knows how to use his charm. I liked Yoli a lot even if we don’t see her enough for my taste. She’s a character that deserves attention. Just like Itza, who has a lot of secrets to tell us. Yemeni is important too. I loved this first book and I’m a great fan of the Mayan, Aztec and Inca civilizations. I find that Lani Forbes’ research is very thorough, I really enjoyed reading a story that happened at that time in those civilizations where the belief in several Gods was so important.
