Happy first El WooWoo Wednesday of December. It's December. Wack.
And on the first of December, I posted the first chapter of my Gleecember fic, since I wanted to start it on the 1st... and then I didn't write anything for it anymore. Mostly because a) thesis and b) Hades 2. But I have been "writing things out in my head", as one does. Time to finally actually write it down. Not on paper. But in a Tumblr post. A lil recap: my Gleecember fic is just going to be a bunch of meet-cutes, although... maybe this one is meet-weird:
Blaine has no clue how he found himself here. Well, he does. He works here. He's been a life-guard at this pool for a while now, but he never thought he had to do this. He's here to keep an eye on people, not be facilitating dates! But that's what is happening. His colleague Rachel was inspired by the story of how her dads met at a swimming pool and suggested a new activity: swim dating! Basically, woeful single people can come to this event in the hopes of finding the love of their lives. "It's an alternative to all these tacky dating apps!" Rachel had exclaimed, and she's right there. But... this? Not only that, but when Blaine's working, most of the swimmers are elders who swim to keep their bodies working. And Blaine adores his loyal patrons, but he cannot stomach the idea of his dearest Bessie trying to be flirty, or even worse, sexy. And that's how he finds himself overlooking people in bathing suits striking up conversations in his pool about love. But Blaine has to give Rachel credit. This idea is more popular than he initially thought and there are even younger people here, including a very cute looking guy who's swimming on his own, despite wearing a swim date bracelet.
Apparently this swim dating thing is a real thing. I learnt of it and immediately knew I had to Klaine-ify it.
Speaking about turning everything into something Glee related, I snuck Glee into my thesis! I am very happy about it. Here are some translated sentences from my thesis:
Through these things, we also begin to have genuine feelings and become invested in [fictional characters'] well-being. Will the glee club win Nationals or not? Viewers sure hope they do![1] (...) Of course, there's a difference between my favorite Glee character and a deathbot: Kurt Hummel cannot talk back, but a deathbot can. Glee viewers cannot influence how Kurt acts, but deathbot users can influence how their deathbots act.
[1] Spoilers: they win Nationals in season 3 and 6, but lose in season 2 and 5.
My thesis advisor thought the footnote was very funny and thinks it can stay. He actually said it adds to the credibility of me writing this thesis myself, so yay. Thank you Glee and Kurt Hummel.
