Jeff pauses his stick collection and looks up, peering into the dense trees. The deer who'd been hanging around earlier have vanished, in that weird soundless way of theirs, without hoofbeats or the crunching of dry leaves. Probably a good sign he should return to the cabin. Making circles of twigs in the woods wasn't that important...

             What is that?

Even for Night Vale, the creature was strange, very strange. He stopped what he was doing, pulling his glasses out of his pocket and putting them on; Carlos was caught between fear and curiosity. Curiosity, as usual these days, won out over the seeping terror that must be natural in the unusual entity's presence, and he edged towards it.

He stopped far enough away that he might just be safe, then-trembling-he pulled a pen out of his front pocket to take a few notes. Hopefully it wasn't like the inhabitants of the dog park, and he could safely observe it for now.

Finally he decided to try and speak to the unique and fascinating presence.

            "H-Hello. What a-are you?"

◤ஐ◥ Streaks of crimson trailed behind bare feet, marking the dismal forest floor. Hours  drifted past with little variation from the last, the developing darkness failing to affect the lone child. How long had she been wandering? Seeking comfort within the confines of bare trees, where human hands had long since discarded her. She squeezed the tarnished teddy bear in her arms, the only remnant of her past life.

Pitifully lonely, why was she so l o n e l y ?

Aimless wandering evolved into a now desperate search, Sally longing to discover any human presence among the desolation. Scampering  did her little good, but she refused to cease her pace. There had to be someone, anyone.
