After I got convicted in 2004, I told the mother of my daughter that I was certain I would be out sooner than expected. But I have to wait till my appeal is heard in court. In those years while I waited, I had every confidence that I would “win” the appeal after-all, I knew my case better than anyone. Now if you don’t know, the lawyer that a person uses for their appeal is usually different from the one used for the actual trial. But both lawyers kept in contact because of the case. In October of 2009, my appeal is finally heard but I had to wait again for their decision on the matter heard by 3 judges of which I only needed 2 in my favour to “win” the appeal. At this point in the prison time I called once in awhile to check in on the folks out here, mainly my daughter. So in January of 2010, I called the mother of my daughter like any other time(no more collect calls, we used prepaid phon cards). But this time soon as she picks up my call. She asked me “where are you”? Annoyed by the obvious answer to the question, I stated “like duh you know where I am”. She quickly realized that I did not know, so me “winning” my appeal was told to me by the same person I told back in 2004 that I wasn’t going to do all this time they gave me(ironic😏). It turns out after the decision came down from the appeal courts, my appeal lawyer called my trial lawyer and told him the good news. The trial lawyer then excitedly called the mother of my daughter and told her...but no one told me or the prison I was in🤬🧘♂️.
