When customers are beyond belief
We have one step in our store that splits it in half, and the back of the store has the mirrors and the fitting room. It’s one step up.
Just one.
This customer came in today, wearing her athleisure wear and her red lipstick because clearly fitness was top of her to do list, along with ruining my day.
She rummages through the racks roughly, like she’s personally offended by them. Onto the sale rack she moves, hindered slightly by her impractical pumps (definitely headed for the gym).
She pulls out a few garments and then turns to me, because my presence is suddenly worth acknowledging.
She says “where are the fitting rooms?”
Me, with a smile: “just up here on the left”
Her, noticing the step: “don’t you have a mirror down here?”
Me: “No, just a big one up the step, right next to the fitting rooms”
Her, deadpan: “That doesn’t work for me”
I’m shocked. What is she asking here. I ask her what she means.
“I don’t do stairs”
“Well,” I say, “sorry but the mirrors and the fitting room are up the step”
“That just doesn’t work for me”
Frustrated, I shrug, and look at her expectantly.
“It’s a bit rude that your only mirror is up the stairs”
I clench my fists tightly. I’m exhausted and this lady isn’t going to buy anything anyway. She’s looking for a Kmart bargain and we make our clothing 20 minted away from local fabric. What a joke.
“Well,” I say, “you can either go up the single step or I’ll take those clothes then.”
I hold my hand out. I’m so over her. It’s one single step. You’re walking around in heels and active wear. You can climb a step.
Her nose is so high in the air I’m shocked her neck can bend at that angle. She all but throws the clothing at me and stomps out.
What a day.
