6 years ago I was able to move to New York and attend Manhattanville College on a full ride scholarship thanks to the generosity of Elizabeth McCormack. A member in the Society of the Sacred Heart for nearly thirty years and former philanthropic advisor to the Rockefeller family; Elizabeth is regarded by many as the very soul of philanthropy, with her advice and compassion having helped to inform the distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars to worthy causes around the world. In this photo is just some of the lives Elizabeth has. touched with the opportunity of a free education. Twice a year a group of use come together to update her on our lives and adventures since graduating. At 96 years of age she still makes a point to remember all of our individual passions and encourages us to do more. I thank you Elizabeth, because of you I toured the shores of Africa, built houses in Louisiana and joined an acting collation Vermont. Most importantly I can pursue my passion of poetry without the fear of crippling student loan debt. I know freedom because of you. Thank you. See you in the winter. It was October 2007. I was acne ridden black boy in Chicago who despite being outgoing on the exterior was painfully insecure. My pastor, Jo Ann Long scripture for that year was Psalms 20:07 “Some trust in chariots and some and horse ,but we will remember the name of our Lord God.” This became a new affirmation for me, to never trust in the horse, metaphoric for ones natural gifts of strength or speed, and to never trust in the chariot, metaphoric for ones ingenuity or wit , I nstead I developed a new self concept that was connected to my relationship to an higher power, the does not define your potential by race or class and most importantly not looks. Years later, I continued to immerse myself in not just Christianity but all of worlds most famous religions and modes of thought. My personal book collection stems from everyone from Lao Tzu to St. Germain. And what I know for sure is that there is certain creative energy that shaped this world and accessible to all because IT IS and IS IN all of us. Some call it Buddha, others Allah, other Yahweh, others the Universe I believe these are all the same, and the ideologies behind each are the same, and that is: we are all a result of what we have thought, and we can change our realities by the images we hold in our minds. As for me and my house, that magnificent energy I call God or Jesus or the Holy Spirit. There is always been power in those name, for is was the name I called on my weakest days. It’s after 12 AM here on the east coast which means it’s been decade since I decided to remember the name. October for most people is know for dying things, a precursor to the coming winter, but for me it’s always be a personal spring. It’s when I blossomed and bloomed. Not perfect but wonderfully made. So Let me be the first to wish you a Happy Oc10ber. I pray that all you ever imagined manifests this month. You deserve it. Yours Truly, HisHeirness #1017 #thesummerisuponus
