I have been placed in ravenclaw and I wanted to ask what you think. I am an artist and a writer, a get slightly above average grades. I play the drums outside of school but im not sure if that instrument is very ravenclaw or if I am?
It’s not the type of instrument you play but the fact that you play music at all that’s a ravenclaw trait
As much as I love pottermore I think people can sometimes take it too literally. I mean the sorting hat isn’t going to go ‘hmmm well everything about you screams gryffindor but you play the piano and enjoy classical music so I’d better put you in ravenclaw instead’ that’s just not how it works
Sure, if I were going to summarise ravenclaw with an instrument, it wouldn’t be the drums. But those characterisations are based off generalisations. No two people are the same, even if they’re in the same house, and just because one aspect of you doesn’t seem very ravenclaw, it doesn’t negate everything else about you that is
People seem to be searching for a perfect fit when it comes to hogwarts houses and that’s never going to happen. There’s probably an aspect of your house that you don’t relate to that much, and there are probably aspects of other houses that you can completely relate to. It’s looking for the best fit rather than the perfect fit. It’s taking the skeleton of the house and fleshing it out into something that’s unique to you
In summary, it’s hard to judge from 3 lines of text but you sound fairly ravenclaw to me. You’re clearly an artist and playing the drums doesn’t make you any less of a musician than playing the violin. However sorting is about your values. It’s about the person you aspire to be and what you admire most in yourself and others, so think about your mentality more than your skill set and hopefully you figure out where you belong
