I left an entire blog post's worth of words in the Youtube description, but that was only a fraction of what I wanted to say. Everything else will be in this post.
Actually, I covered this song because of a rough patch in my life, and 3.1 only pushed the stake further in my heart. What? I'm always in a rough patch? Haha yeah, that's how things are sometimes!
Anyways, when I said I cried when I finished the story, I didn't mention that I couldn't watch any of the ending scenes without breaking down in tears. There was a video of a guy sobbing so hard until he started coughing and wailing. I would have laughed because it was framed as a silly thing, but it wasn't an exaggeration. Not at all. I am still loudly crying.
The original version of the song is so cute, I reccommend giving it a listen if you enjoy bubbly music.
I had to ask a mod in the Wuwa discord server to ask if I could use vocal synths (Vocaloid-equivalent programs). Imagine my relief when they said I could, as long as it wasn't copyrighted material (so no Spongeloid haha), because I absolutely did not want to sing this myself. And then I fought for my life trying to gently find the combinations for the vowels I needed for the synths to sing Viet, and even then I couldn't get it fully. Please forgive me lol there was no outline for it, so ts"`h A U N" for "trong" and "N 6 i cl" for "ngây" or something like that, and I could only use Canto native banks because they had the closest vowels.
Like all other things I upload, this cover was entirely self indulgent. I've etched all those notes in grief as my own personal feelings rather than an introspective analysis of the characters. Adding in Ciaccona's song because I listened to it when I was terrified of tomorrow. Fitting in the Viet poem because I wasn't ready to face the present. The instrumental style was inspired by koma'n, but it was also just how I grew up playing piano. No proper books. Just learning by ear and transcribing with my family. The choir part? I liked writing SAB harmony, that's all. Transposing the song? I picked that key because it had the same orange-peach hue in the video to me. It also made the song easier to fit within Feng Yi's range, but that was only a nice side effect.
Alright, alright, enough of my thought dump. Yeah, I arranged "Fallen Petals" for the event, but I'm not really chasing a prize. Of course it'd be neat to be featured, but as long as it was within reach of someone who wanted to peek into my heart, that's good enough for me.
