What was supposed to be breakfast had turned into brunch as the morning had swiftly gotten away from them. The eggs didn't taste nearly as good reheated as they would have fresh off the stove but there were no regrets to be found. He got to spend an incredible night and morning with the woman he'd been pining for since they had broken up back in high school. Something had obviously shifted dramatically between them, altering the course of the friendship they'd rebuilt from the ruins of their past relationship but a conversation still loomed over them. They'd acted on impulse and years of pent-up sexual tension now the lingering question remained: Where did they go from here?
"I want you there. Always." He murmurs of their future, leaving the 'in any form' unsaid as he felt that was obvious. Brown eyes flick over to her hand which slides across the table to take hold of his, reading the weight that little gesture conveys in combination with her words. Nancy meant what she was saying. It was funny because over the years, he had come to terms with the fact that maybe they would never revisit what he had told her the night the earth under Hawkins had split into four. That he would never really hear her side and that maybe the lack of response was his answer. He'd been okay with that, especially since they'd rebuilt a good friendship between them and were still actively in each other's lives. Now he was finally able to hear where she stood on them, having finally figured out her feelings for herself.
A warmth spreads through his chest as he finally feels like the stars are aligning in most every aspect of his life. Would it be easy? Probably not. Life had many bumps and they would be long distance at least for awhile but he held out hope that they could make this work. "I've had more than enough time to process how I feel about you, Nance. I know I want to be with you and I've been knowing that for a very long time." Smiling softly, he gives her hand a small squeeze of assurance so she would know that he stood on business to back his words. "We both have busy lives and I'm not exactly married to the idea of staying in Hawkins. I'm open to moving somewhere down the line but I won't get ahead of myself here, that's a conversation for much later. For right now, we can test the waters and see if we can make the distance work. Personally, I think we've done a great job keeping our friendship alive despite that hurdle and I believe we can do the same if not better with a relationship. What do you think?"
