I tried your moon wish jar spell last year and it went well! So, thank you for that :). I have a couple questions and I'm sorry if you've answered these already, but is it not okay to keep the jar on the sill after the wish came true? I have this fear that, as soon as I uncraft it, the fulfillment will be undone, too. And, would you consider having more than one wish jar out at a time as being greedy or negating?

Generally speaking, I'd go with whatever feels right for you in the circumstances. I've recommended this spell to a lot of people and from the feedback I've gotten, some choose to dismantle the jar when it feels like the spell is "done" and others choose to maintain it as a sort of magical security to safeguard the results once they've manifested.

Also, I have four or five moon jars going each month for various purposes, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's not being greedy so much as it is making each one purpose-oriented rather than trying to cram all your wishes into one pot. And so long as you're clear about the purpose of each jar and take care to close loopholes and not contradict yourself during the castings, you should be fine.

So, im new to witchcraft and I'm having some difficulty understanding altars, especially for secular witches. Are there elements or, like a kind of checklist(? Probably not the right word) that go into making a serviceable altar? Thank you! I love your shop, btw

In some existing traditions there are not only a checklist of items, but specific places that should be on your altar. But if you are secular witch, it doesn’t apply and it is up to you to decide.

I like to think of an altar as a workspace, a dedicated space to do my witchy stuff from daily tarot draws to spellwork, sometimes just a place to sit and read and research with a bunch of books open across the floor. I also really enjoy the aesthetic opportunities of creating altars and shrines with seasonal finds, it brings me joy. Altars can also be a daily reminder of the practice you are building, which might be helpful.

Sometimes I make the distinction between an altar space a a workspace and a shrine as a dedicated to a specific thing like ancestors, ideas, or pop cultures icons.

Maybe that’s too weird a religious for you? Then dump it. Items in your practice should be useful to you. Sometimes if it just makes you happy it’s enough.

Last year I simplified my main altar space to be pretty on the top and utilitarian on the bottom. It’s a small table I found at a thrift store that has all these alcoves and neat shelves that really work for me.

I just learned about Sherman Ranch (aka "Skinwalker Ranch" (not a big fan of the name, but wygd)) in the Uintahs. I've lived in Utah my whole life and had no idea this was a thing. I know you've travelled quite a bit, have you ever been to this site?

I have a few things to say here!

1) I feel like I talk about a lot of other places so not many of my followers actually know this about me, but I’m from Utah! I love and appreciate all asks but Utah and Chicago asks are always my particular favorites.

2) The name is a disaster on so many levels. Navajo reticence to discuss/even name skin-walkers completely aside, the ranch is nowhere near the Navajo part of the state? It’s on a Ute rez and to the best of my knowledge skinwalkers aren’t a Ute thing? (Admittedly I know next to nothing about Ute mythology so I could be wrong). And most of its paranormal stories seem to be surrounding aliens which... is nothing to do with skin-walkers? Skin-walkers are literally just people. Anyway, sorry. That was a tangent.

3) I haven’t been to the ranch specifically but I’ve been to Ballard and up the road toward the ranch and it does have a pretty weird vibe, though admittedly no weirder than the rest of the Uintahs. The Uintahs are just pretty weird in general. Mostly because of the sheer number of dead trees and the bark beetle plague.

what's your stance on werewolves being undead? based on a random vampire myth, I kinda get why they would be, but it seems like a miscategorization.

I don’t categorize werewolves as undead, at least not in my work(s). Supernatural yes, but not undead. But this is also because I don’t go the “must be bitten and nearly murdered/die to become a werewolf” route. I based it more instead on the celtic inspired forest spirits and magical curse legends I grew up reading about as a child.

Lycanthropy on the other hand, where one is turned by the bite and the affliction is transmitted via the blood, that I class as a kind of undead subtype of shapeshifter not dissimilar to vampirism. If only for the method of how it is passed on.

Here’s a quick wip ramble: in the middle of the 3rd draft and I’ve pretty much abandoned my revamped outline, not because it wasn’t good, but new ideas came. The working title is Witching, about Sloane suddenly remembering all that is visible to her and, not for that reason, she’s informed she’s a witch being stalked for her stories and her potential host body. The overall rule for her (and me), esp with her bf Alice, is “No secrets,” which gets dicey, but that’s good for the story and me.

Mmmmm I love witches!! And I definitely feel you about outlines not panning out. Recently some of the Sisters of Hecate cast came to me and basically said, “Hey dude, you got the beginning of the story ALL WRONG.”
