A disarmed “wh — what” escapes Caleb, his eyes widening, but it all happens too fast for him to stop her. Jester happens to him, like a force of nature, enough times that he should be able to see it coming. Somehow he manages to give her a flat stare and at the same time to blush bright red.
“’effter — ”
He has... many questions, all of them completely serious. For one, what does he need to exercise his face for? What does she have planned? He lifts his hands in half-hearted protest, but stops short of grabbing her wrists to hold her back. It’s impossible to prepare for Jester. It’s impossible to say no to her. He musters his willpower for two more, bewildered syllables:
“I... we?”
