Going into the Umbilicus for the first time had him ready to find the Exarch so he could throttle him and demand to build bookshelves the moment they rescued him. (He waited until they were both released from their Lyna-and-Alisaie-enforced bedrest.) The moment he was allowed to wander the Crystarium again he was booking it to the Crystal tower with tools and lumber. He is not canonically a carpenter but if there’s one thing he can make it’s shelving, because if he starts seeing books without a proper place he will make a place for them.

That cute moment with Y’shtola napping in 6.1? The only reason J’qupoh was not quietly stacking those books on a cart to take to a table or something is because he fears Y’shtola too much to mess with them and possibly interfere with whatever sorting she might have for what still needs to be read or revisited. Absolutely sitting there dying to wake her up because dear gods please stop sleeping on them books are not a bed. That’s bad for your spine and theirs Shtola.

It’s part of his overall dislike of people not taking care of their stuff/being annoyed about waste, but this especially gets him aggravated. It’s his Sharlayan-bred love of books He puts a lot of value on books as a tool for understanding the world and learning the things his mom people didn’t have the time or patience to teach him, and generally getting annoyed by seeing valuable things mistreated in ways that will keep them  from lasting. ESPECIALLY if it’s done by someone who says they also see that thing as important.
