NOVEMBER TRIBUTE - my parents enjoyed being together and doing things together. And, the older they got, the more silly with each other we got to see them. As i look back at pictures when they were first married and living on the Naval base in Beeville, Texas, they were always joking and laughing. They loved to explore the towns around them and have fun with their friends. Once they became parents we obviously sucked some of that fun out of them. 🤪 In reality, isn’t that what happens? You date and marry someone and you’re at your peak? You have kids and your life has to change a little (or a lot). But there were times when their true spirits would come out.Saturday mornings with music blaring as we did our chores - nothing would stop these two from dancing in the middle of the living room in front of us. Christmas morning - Christmas songs playing and the two of them beaming from ear to ear knowing that Santa had gotten us each what we had asked for! Birthdays when we sat around the table with our family and friends singing HBD and blowing out candles. Friday nights when we splurged and ordered pizza! Friday and Saturday nights sitting in the family room watching tv together and eating ice cream as a treat - my dad would take turns “stirring it up” to make it into a thick milkshake. Those became their “date nights”. When we got older it was easier to see the joy they each had for the other. I guess we as kids got a little less selfish?? All of these memories make it clear why my mom gets so sad some days. This was her best friend. They did everything together and loved embarking on new journeys out of town. It’s hard for her to go to parties and weddings because when it’s time to dance she knows my dad won’t be there to escort her to the dance floor. They and their friends used to love vacationing together but now she’s odd man out. 😔 So when someone says “it will get easier” or “He’s in a better place” it’s crushing. My mom can’t just get over it in time - this was her partner for over 40 years.
