Hi, Frank here. I'm sorry to talk so much, I just feel sort of like I'm on a fishing line and some people pull me out and then some people don't. (Because of the Mysterious Morbius Concept)
Why is Morbius . . . What is Morbius doing?
Morbius the Living Vampire is one of those fictional characters I have a weird sort of "sympathetic identity with." I guess it's a matter of my having very strong memories associated with him, going way back to when I was a little kid reading comic books about him. It's just that he feels like something I used to be but have lost. Like a younger version of myself, who was a lot more serious and hard-working. But also a better version of myself, because I feel like Morbius used to be really smart, but I've fallen a long way from that standard.
There's something very important to me in there, about the bonds of masculine friendships, and the fact that he used to be able to rely on his friends no matter what, and part of him has never gotten over that, and I've sort of lost that but want it back. When I write about him I feel like I'm reaching back in time and recovering a part of my younger self, only now that it's fictional it's safe and harmless and I can't screw anything up and I can have a chance to fix that broken child part of myself that isn't broken anymore.
