Fire ant: do you collect anything?

Oh geez, do I! I’m a regular bowerbird. Books, bones, bugs, botanical bits and pieces, embroidery badges, feathers, basically anything that catches my beady little eye. Which means I have a amassed a trove of oddities - some melted glass I found after a bushfire, the split pod of a dagger hakea, a dagger of slate from a scree slope, a nice pebble of quartz, a neat mutant eucalyptus leaf... There’s never any space on my shelves!

Another photoset of my needle felted Spinosaurus. You can’t swim in geraniums, silly.

The weather's gotten way better over the past few weeks, so I brought my needle felted Spinosaurus outside for a photo shoot, as promised. I was concerned that the blue would be a little overpowering, but I think the variegated grass works perfectly.

I needle felted a Spinosaurus! He’s a gift for one of my lecturers. He took around a week to make over the course of two or three months. I used a wire armature, so you can move him pretty much any way you want.

When the weather improves, I’ll take him outside for a more naturalistic photo shoot.
