The Zygon Inversion
Bonnie: Swagitty swox what's in the box?
Bonnie: *discovers nothing*
Bonnie: Mother fuck
The Parallel
“Don’t think of them as rational, they’re different. They don’t care about human beings, they don’t care about their own people. They think the rest of Zygon-kind are traitors. It’s a splinter group.”
“What is that you actually want?”
“And when this war is over, when you have a homeland free of humans. What do you think it is going to be like? Have you considered it?”
“Let me ask you a question about the brave new world of yours. When you have killed all the bad guys, when it is all perfect and just and fair. When you have finally got it exactly where you wanted, what are you going to do about the people like you? The troublemakers. How are you going to protect your glorious revolution from the next one?”
“Nobody wins for long. The wheel keeps turning. C’mon, break the cycle.”
“It’s not a game. This is a scaled model of war. Every war ever fought right there in front of you because it is always the same. When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who is going to die. You don’t know who’s children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered.”
-The Doctor, The Zygon Inversion
I don’t always agree with the content Steven Moffat writes but this was a truly brilliant episode. Peter Capaldi’s performance was exceptional. I don’t know if he drew inspiration from what’s going on in this messed up world we live in but the parallels did not escape me.
I though the best part of The Zygon Invasion was that scene where the Doctor talked about how a war starts with the first gunshot, the first button being pressed, and how he understood that feeling of causing destruction really
